Overview

My academic degree is in Somatics (a school of psychology which seeks to bridge the dichotomy between body and mind- see below for more discussion).  Beyond that, I have been trained in and utilized various forms and approaches to healing over the years, including working with the nervous system directly.   I have found that there is no one size fit’s all approach that meets the needs of all clients.  It must be individualized to the needs and the desired outcomes of each person.  We will co-create together… and if you find that my flavor of healing does not match your preferences, I will help you find a clinician that does.

In addition to my clinical training, my work is also informed by many years of Ayurvedic study and looking at cycles - of time, of seasons, of rhythms and how we circle back to our formative years for a rich understanding of our inner imprints and how we continue to re-create dynamics later in our lives from these early imprints.

Below offers information regarding my two main approaches to the therapeutic process, along with some information about treatment teams.

Somatics

If we are home in our bodies, we always have home court advantage.  Why leave and become the opponent?

What would it be like if we actually woke up from our automatic habits and actually felt the cause and effect of our choices?

  • It is time to break the spell of monotony and status quo living.

  • We have become so domesticated, we have forgotten what it feels like to be free.

  • I want to help you break the spell of monotony and status quo zombie like living.

  • We, as a culture, are addicted to self-sabotage.  We have cut off from our body’s discerning intelligence.

As a somatically trained therapist, my foundational therapeutic perspective views the body, mind and spirit as being interconnected.  We live in a world where we are constantly bombarded with information and stimulus.  Our experiences are imprinted in our bodies and our physical selves are impacted not only by the outside world but also by our inner thoughts, beliefs and feelings.  In today's fast paced, success driven culture, it is so easy to cut ourselves off from our own innate knowing.  We can get that back.  It’s practical and necessary.  Stuck mental patterns and the self-sabotaging behaviors that cause suffering can transform themselves into strategies that create sustainable wellness.  Life is not meant to be something we endure.  Somatic approaches get us to the root causes, re-align us with our true nature and allow for lasting transformation.

Parts Work

You are with you for life- why not make it a friendly relationship?

And, beyond that… wouldn’t it be radical for you to become the love of your life?

Over the years, I have found that one of the most powerful ways to heal is through recovering and reclaiming parts of ourselves which were shunned, disowned, and dismembered.  We have all done this.  You can see it if you look around.  Too many fragments, too little wholeness.

In our work together, you have FULL permission to bring ALL of you forward- the messy, dark, gritty, frightful, contradictory, hidden, fierce, raw, vile, tender, confused, disagreeable, rebellious parts of you… all are welcome.

There is wisdom in each aspect of who we are and when we dismember a part of ourselves, we cut off our own wisdom. The more we disown over time, the less of us we have left until we become talking heads- isolated, lonely and an enemy to ourselves.  This is where depression, anxiety, addictions, self-harm and various other forms of suffering emerge… you know how the story goes.

Disconnection from ourselves creates discontentment with life.

Therapy allows you to find a ground that holds ALL of you.

I want to get to know the parts of you that scare you.

I want to learn what is unwavering and unapologetically true for you.

It’s a search and rescue mission.  No part gets left behind.

I want to watch as you recover and reclaim all of you.

It’s a juicy love story- former enemy turned friend turned love of your own life.

Treatment Teams... It takes a village

First and foremost is our relationship.

If you and I decide this would be beneficial for you, I can refer and collaborate with various other clinicians to build a treatment team that fits your needs (or join your already existing treatment team).

Providers may include psychiatrists (both Western and Integrative), dietitians, physicians (of varying orientations), body workers, group therapists and any other adjunct providers that feels supportive.

I routinely speak with treatment team members to give and receive updates as well as collaborate for wrap around care.

If needed, I can also help transition clients from and to higher levels of care if that becomes part of the therapeutic process.
